Representation Review

Introduction

Like other councils, Waikato District Council is required to undertake a review of their current representation arrangements at least once every six years. This is to ensure they provide fair and effective representation for people and their communities, provide an effective voice, strengthen local democracy and help maintain confidence in local government.

The Representation Review web application was created to enable the public to produce Community and Ward representation models which can be reviewed by Council staff.

Simplistically the application enables a user to create catchments based on the meshblocks within the Waikato District Council area and assign each of these a number of representatives.

The catchments should geographically represent areas of common interest and collectively have a even ratio between the population and number of representatives in each catchment (+/- 10%).
